Controversy continues to surround Team Kenya ahead of this year’s Deaflympics in Tokyo

Controversy continues to surround Team Kenya ahead of this year’s Deaflympics in Tokyo, with allegations of nepotism and favouritism in the selection process.

Sources within the Kenya Sports Federation for the Deaf say certain officials manipulated the process to favour relatives, while Ruth Akinyi of the Kenya Deaf Basketball Federation accused senior officials of skewing player selections. The Kenya Deaf Volleyball Federation has also raised concerns after the discipline was excluded from the final team.

In response, the Ministry has scheduled a stakeholder meeting this afternoon, after which an official statement is expected. The Deaflympics will take place from November 15 to 26 in Tokyo.
