South Africa (SA) recorded more than 11 000 cervical cancer cases and nearly 6 000 deaths in 2022, according to the Department of Health.
As the country steps up efforts to eliminate the disease, the newly established Health, Education and Training Foundation is seeking to expand access to hyperthermia treatment for women with locally advanced cervical cancer.
The treatment is administered alongside chemotherapy and radiation and has shown improved five-year disease-free survival rates in clinical trials conducted in SA.
The foundation says expanding access to the treatment could help improve outcomes for women affected by the disease.
