Niger has officially submitted its request to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC), joining regional neighbours Mali and Burkina Faso.
The move marks a significant shift in the political and diplomatic strategy of nations within the Alliance of Sahel States.
The Nigerien authorities have accused the ICC of dispensing selective justice and serving foreign interests. In response, the Hague-based tribunal expressed regret over the decision, while reaffirming its commitment to combating impunity for the world’s gravest crimes.
