Nigeria is celebrating its 66th Independence anniversary today, marking more than six decades since gaining independence from British colonial rule on October 1, 1960.
Commemorative events and official parades are taking place across state capitals and the nation’s capital, Abuja, highlighting Nigeria’s cultural diversity, economic trajectory, and regional leadership as Africa’s most populous nation. In a national broadcast to mark the anniversary, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressed the country, urging national unity while defending structural economic reforms undertaken by his administration to stabilise the national economy.
Tinubu emphasised that initial sacrifices are laying the groundwork for long-term growth, domestic manufacturing expansion, and youth opportunity across the continent’s largest economy.
