The National Sports Commission (NSC) has pledged its full support for Nigeria’s hosting of the All Africa Challenge Trophy, scheduled to take place in November 2026 in Abuja. The prestigious continental golf tournament will be staged at the IBB International Golf and Country Club.
The NSC’s endorsement aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of strengthening Nigeria’s sports economy and positioning the country as a hub for major international sporting events.
NSC Chairperson Mallam Shehu Dikko confirmed the commission’s commitment during a meeting with a delegation from the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN), the body that successfully secured the hosting rights for the tournament.
LGAN President Doctor Lami Onayi Ahmed described the achievement as exceeding expectations, saying the association had hoped for a modest outcome when bidding in Agadir, Morocco, but instead secured a major continental event. She appealed to the NSC for support in managing what she described as a significant and demanding undertaking.
Mallam Dikko assured LGAN of the commission’s full backing, reiterating the NSC’s dedication to transforming Nigeria into a leading global sporting destination through the regular hosting of high-profile international competitions.
The All Africa Challenge Trophy is expected to attract participants from at least 30 African countries and will provide an important platform for amateur golfers to gain exposure and undergo international assessment, while also boosting sports tourism and development in Nigeria.
