NUT has called on school teachers to embark on withdrawal of services
The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has called on school teachers in Oyo State to embark on an indefinite withdrawal of services over the continued captivity of teachers and pupils abducted during an attack on schools in Oriire.
The mass abduction occurred on May15, when armed men abducted 39 students and seven teachers in an attack targeting several schools in Nigeria’s south western Oyo State.
Mass kidnappings by armed groups have become a serious security challenge in Nigeria in recent years.
NUT has directed public primary and secondary school teachers in Oyo State to commence an indefinite withdrawal of services, citing concerns over the continued captivity of some teachers and calling for urgent intervention by the relevant authorities.
