The Nigeria High Commissioner to South Africa (SA), Alexander Bankole Ajayi, says the current protests are placing strain on economic ties between the two countries, stressing that issues of illegal migration must be addressed within the framework of the law.
He was briefing the media in Pretoria, where he noted that attention is now shifting to the broader implications, not only for diplomacy, but also for business confidence, cross-border trade and the future of economic co-operation between the two countries.
Ajayi says beyond the immediate humanitarian concerns, the situation raises critical questions around trade, investment and the strength of business relations between Africa’s two largest economies.
He added that the Nigerian business community is watching developments closely in the wake of the protests.
