Garba’s comments come after Nigeria missed out again at the regional qualifiers. The Golden Eaglets were beaten 2–0 in the second semi-final of the WAFU B tournament in Ivory Coast on Tuesday, ruling them out of the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations and by extension, the 2026 FIFA U-17 World Cup, now an annual tournament.
Garba, who guided Nigeria to the FIFA U-17 World Cup title in 2013, says it is unfair to restrict WAFU B a zone he describes as the strongest on the continent to only two qualifying places.
