Former United States (US) President Barack Obama says Americans expect federal law enforcement to carry out their duties in a lawful manner

He and former President Bill Clinton released pointed statements after immigration and border patrol agents fatally shot Alex Pretti.

The incident happened during anti-immigration enforcement protests in Minneapolis, in the state of Minnesota, on Saturday.

Pretti’s killing has enraged many, with Obama saying the country’s core values are increasingly under assault. Clinton has warned that the freedoms of Americans are at risk.

Obama said people across the country were rightly outraged by the spectacle of masked federal agents whom he accused of acting with impunity and engaging in provocative tactics.

He said statements by current administration officials appeared at odds with video evidence of the incidents.

Former President Clinton accused what he called the “people in charge” of lying to the American people and of impeding investigations by local authorities.

Minnesota’s Democratic Governor Tim Walz called on President Donald Trump to remove the federal agents from the state decrying the second killing of a US citizen at their hands after Renee Good’s fatal shooting three weeks earlier.
