In South Africa (SA), October is observed as Mental Health Awareness month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about mental health and encouraging open conversations around emotional well-being.
The month aims to highlight the challenges faced by people living with mental health conditions, while helping to reduce the stigma and misconceptions that often prevent people from seeking support.
The campaign also draws attention to the need for accessible and affordable mental health services, as well as greater support for individuals, families and communities.
This focus comes ahead of World Mental Health Day, which will be marked on Saturday, providing an opportunity to promote mental health awareness.
