Several African countries are feeling the impact of shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route, as rising fuel costs and inflation fears spread across the continent.

According to BBC reporter Shingai Nyoka, businesses and consumers thousands of kilometres from the Middle East are already experiencing the ripple effects of higher oil prices and disrupted supply routes.

In Zimbabwe, fuel prices have jumped by 25 United States cents, rising from $1.52 per litre. Meanwhile, the currencies of South Africa and Egypt have weakened in recent days as concerns over rising inflation grow.

In Ghana, authorities have been forced to pause gold exports to Dubai after flights were grounded due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
