Over half of the multi-million Dollar FIFA payout earned by Bafana Bafana following their World Cup campaign will be channeled into South African (SA) football development and administrative programs.
Speaking to SABC Sport, SA Football Association (SAFA) Finance Committee Chairperson Mxolisi Sibam confirmed that out of the $14.5 million secured from FIFA, which includes $12 million for reaching the Round of 32 and a $2.5 million preparation allocation, more than $6 million will be retained to strengthen the domestic game.
Under the agreed distribution model, half of the total prize pot goes directly to the national governing body. The playing squad will split approximately $3.6 million, giving each player roughly R2.5 million ($138 000), while head coach Hugo Broos receives a 10% share and assistant coach Helman Mkhalele takes 5%.
Sibam praised squad leadership for backing the initiative, noting that the players’ willingness to support the structure allows critical funding to flow into grassroots infrastructure and regional administration.
