Pakistan has reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to supporting self-determination and peace initiatives across Africa and the global south, citing its historic backing of liberation movements on the continent.

Speaking during Pakistan’s 80th Independence Day commemorations on Friday, High Commissioner Malik Muhammad Farooq highlighted Islamabad’s early support for North African independence struggles in Tunisia, Morocco, and Algeria during the mid-twentieth century.

Farooq also noted Pakistan’s diplomatic and peacekeeping interventions during international crises, including the conflict in Bosnia-Herzegovina, highlighting that the country remains dedicated to playing a constructive role in global conflict resolution and peacebuilding.

Addressing guests at the commemoration, Farooq stressed that Pakistan’s foreign policy continues to prioritise solidarity, non-alignment, and active participation in international efforts where support for self-determination and stability is required.
