The Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) has called on South Africa (SA) to use its leadership to push for greater international support and measures to challenge Israel’s continued military actions in Gaza.
PSC responded to the latest developments in SA’s case against Israel under the Genocide Convention, before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at the Hague.
Israel filed its counter memorial last week at the ICJ, challenging SA’s request to the court to rule that the military action of Israel’s Defence Force in Gaza amounts to genocide.
PSC’s Usuf Chitke says, “Apartheid Israel remains in contempt of the court, ignoring its provisional measures while continuing mass killings, starvation and forced displacement. This genocide in Gaza is enabled by the United States and its allies, who arm, fund, and shield Israel from accountability. The time for appeasement and impunity is over. The international community must enforce the court’s orders, impose sweeping sanctions, disarm the rogue nuclear state and isolate the Israeli regime.”
SA has indicated that it will now decide whether to request the Court’s permission to make further written submissions in reply, or to proceed directly to the oral phase of proceedings.
