The First Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), Dr Gayo Asherbiri, has issued a strong appeal for unity within the institution as delegates gather for a critical legislative session.

The call was made at the PAP headquarters in South Africa’s Midrand, Gauteng, where the institution is currently convening the First Sitting of the Permanent Committees of the Seventh Legislature.

Parliamentarians from across the continent have assembled to deliberate on major cross-cutting issues impacting the region. Key items on the legislative agenda include regional peace and security, as well as the African Union’s (AU) 2026 theme focusing on sustainable water availability and safe sanitation.

As regional challenges mount, leadership highlights that a unified parliamentary front is essential to effectively driving the AU’s developmental and security goals.
