The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) has issued an urgent call for an integrated, gender-responsive approach to address the escalating humanitarian crisis in Sudan, highlighting the severe toll the war continues to take on women and children.

Presenting a report on the security situation to the First Ordinary Session of the Seventh Legislature, Phillipus Wido Katamelo, Chairperson of the Committee on Co-operation, International Relations, and Conflict Resolution, warned that vulnerable populations remain the most affected by ongoing hostilities.

Katamelo urged continental lawmakers to ensure the meaningful participation of Sudanese women in all upcoming peace mediation and post-conflict reconstruction efforts.

In addition, the committee requested an extraordinary session of the PAP dedicated specifically to the Sudanese crisis, aimed at formulating concrete conflict-resolution proposals to present to the warring factions
