Speaking at the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation during the 46th Ordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government in Durban, South Africa, Magosi said the regional bloc continues to prioritise efforts aimed at preserving stability amid growing global uncertainty. “Despite worldwide uncertainties, our region remains mostly peaceful and stable,” Magosi said.
Magosi said SADC’s continued focus on peace and security was essential to achieving the organisation’s broader economic and development goals.
While noting the relative stability enjoyed by much of the region, Magosi acknowledged ongoing concerns in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Madagascar. “While we enjoy relative peace and security, we continue to focus on political and security developments in the DRC and the Republic of Madagascar,” Magosi said.
Magosi said SADC remains committed to supporting member states facing political and security challenges through diplomatic engagement and regional cooperation mechanisms. “Working diligently to support these SADC member states to achieve lasting peace, stability and security,” Magosi said.
