Malawi President Peter Mutharika marked one year in office on Sunday, following his victory over former President Lazarus Chakwera in the September 2025 elections.
Addressing the nation in a televised speech, president Mutharika highlighted his administration’s first year gains which he said included stabilising critical fuel shortages, the launch of free secondary education and the upgrading of roads infrastructure.
Defending his record Mutharika urged national unity promising a better Malawi.
He came back in power after his first presidency between 2014 and 2020.
The record of the 86-year-old has its own blemishes, allegations of corruption that have been a recurring flashpoint across both of his presidencies.
