The Proteas Women will open their T20 International series against Ireland on December 5 at Newlands in Cape Town, with the final One Day International set for December 19 at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
Securing fixtures at these major venues, long associated with men’s cricket, marks a significant milestone for the women’s game in South Africa (SA).
However, Coach Mandla Mashimbyi says the focus remains firmly on performance rather than location.
“The venue for me doesn’t matter, the one thing important to us is to play cricket first and foremost. And if there’s an opportunity to play and showcase what we are about, it doesn’t matter where we are playing. If we get the big stadiums that’s an added value, and playing at Newlands and big stadiums, that’s a big cap for SA for making sure that that happens.”
