Rwanda has reaffirmed its readiness to prevent any Ebola outbreak from entering the country despite ongoing cases reported in neighbouring countries, particularly in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and parts of Uganda.

The Minister of Health in Rwanda Doctor Sabin Nsanzimana outlined the country’s preparedness, border surveillance systems, and assurances to both citizens and international investors that Rwanda remains safe and Ebola-free.

Nsanzimana said Rwanda has remained vigilant since the regional Ebola-Bundibugyo outbreak was officially declared on May 15 by the World Health Organisation, Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, and affected countries.

While hundreds of cases have been reported in parts of DRC and some cases recorded in Uganda, Rwanda has not registered a single Ebola case.

According to Nsanzimana , Rwanda’s success is a result of long-established prevention and response systems that are activated whenever an outbreak is reported in neighbouring countries.
