Rwanda has moved to reassure the international community that it remains free of Ebola infections despite ongoing outbreaks in neighbouring Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda.
Speaking during a media briefing in South Africa (SA) on Wednesday, Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, Olivier J.P. Nduhungirehe, said no Ebola cases have been recorded in Rwanda.
He also stressed that the provinces of eastern DRC bordering Rwanda are also free of the disease.
The remarks came during bilateral talks with SA’s Minister of International Relations and Co-operation, Ronald Lamola as the two countries seek to reset bilateral relations.
In his remarks, Nduhungirehe, said his country and the provinces of North and South Kive of eastern DRC bordering Rwanda remain Ebola-free, reducing the immediate risk of cross-border transmission as the death toll in the DRC has surpassed 130 according to the World Health Organization-
