Four-strong Rwanda squad target Group III ascension at Billie Jean King Cup

Rwanda’s women’s tennis team has arrived in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, ahead of the 2026 Billie Jean King Cup Africa Group IV tournament, with head coach Eric Bimenyimana naming a four-player squad focused on securing promotion to Group III.

Top seed Sonia Tuyishime leads the line-up alongside Gisele Umumararungu, Rona Tuyishimire, and Carine Nishimwe.

Running from August 12 to 16, this year’s edition features 15 nations, up from the 12 that competed in Kigali last year.

Rwanda has been drawn in Group B with Ethiopia, Benin, Mozambique, Lesotho, Sudan, and host nation Côte d’Ivoire. Group A features Togo, Tanzania, Uganda, Senegal, Seychelles, DR Congo, Congo-Brazzaville, and Zambia.
