Analysts are hoping for a higher voter turnout in today’s local government elections, despite relatively low participation during the special voting period in Sout Africa (SA).
Of the more than 2.6 million people approved to cast special votes over the past two days, only 1.4 million participated in the process.
More than 29 million South Africans are registered to vote in the elections, which will determine the councillors who represent communities in metropolitan, district and local municipalities across the country.
The outcome will shape the leadership of municipalities responsible for delivering essential services to communities.
