South Africa (SA) is anxiously awaiting final slot allocations for the upcoming World Athletics Relays in Botswana, scheduled for May 2 and 3.
At the Lefika International Relays, the mixed 4x100m team of Joviale Mbisha, Tamzin Gelant, Retshidisitswe Mlenga and Tsebo Matsoso delivered a strong performance, finishing third in 42.57 seconds, a result that has provisionally secured their place at the global event.
According to Athletics SA High Performance Manager Hezekiel Sepeng, the team is making steady progress, with a long-term ambition to qualify for all relay events at the 2028 Olympic Games.
SA heads into the qualifiers with confidence, having topped the medal standings at last year’s World Relays in China, where the team claimed two gold medals and one bronze.
