South Africa’s (SA) Border Management Authority (BMA) has intercepted more than 540 travellers across various ports of entry in Limpopo, as cross-border traffic continues to surge during the festive return period.
In support of the joint operations in the port environment, the Department of Home Affairs @HomeAffairsSA Director General Tommy Makhode visited the Beitbridge Port of Entry(PoE) were he was welcomed by the @TheBMA_SA Commissioner, Dr Michael Masiapato.#BMA #secureborders… https://t.co/Mv08dSyHb5 pic.twitter.com/7pho2xO4kz

The authority reports that all major ports have recorded high traveller volumes, with Beitbridge leading the way.
According to BMA Spokesperson Mmemme Mogotsi, additional resources and operational support have been deployed to manage the influx. “To handle the increased volumes, multiple processing and interception points have been established at all major ports,” Mogotsi said.
Beitbridge, the busiest land border post, processed an astonishing 22 483 travellers on January 3 alone. Elevated volumes at the crossing have been largely driven by the simultaneous arrival of buses from Malawi, Zimbabwe, and Zambia, Mogotsi added.
The BMA’s intensified operations come amid concerns over congestion and security risks during peak travel periods. Authorities say the measures are aimed at ensuring smooth movement while maintaining strict compliance with immigration and customs regulations.
With traffic expected to remain high in the coming days, the BMA has urged travellers to exercise patience and adhere to all border requirements to avoid delays.
