The council  in the South African (SA) City of Ekurhuleni is today expected to decide on Ekurhuleni Metro Police Deputy Chief, Brigadier Julius Mkhwanazi’s future

The council must decide on whether they place Mkhwanazi on precautionary suspension. This comes after council members tabled an urgent motion to place Mkhwanazi on precautionary suspension, but voting was delayed pending the outcome an internal investigation.

Mkhwanazi is alleged to have used his powers to benefit tender tycoon and attempted murder accused, Vusi ‘Cat’ Matalala.

Mkhwanazi is currently on special leave following allegations that he supplied criminally charged Matlala’s private vehicles with the department’s blue lights. this prompted an internal investigation into Mkhwanazi’s alleged involvement which is expected to be presented before the Ekurhuleni council. Members will then vote on the motion to suspend Mkhwanazi based on the strength of the report once it is presented before council.
