Some countries are bracing themselves for the implementation of tariffs by the US.
Lamola says SA presented a proposed framework trade document when President Cyril Ramaphosa met with US President Donald Trump in May.
Meanwhile Lamola says the new Bill that was adopted by the US House Foreign Affairs Committee has no basis.
The Bill is said to be aimed at punishing SA for its stance on some of global issues and its relations with countries that the US says, are not in line with America’s interests.
Washington mentioned countries such as Iran, Russia and China.
Lamola says SA is a sovereign state and must be respected as it respects other countries.
