South Africa’s (SA) Department of Correctional Services has established a joint initiative with the Department of Social Development to formalize victim participation in offender parole proceedings through a signed Memorandum of Understanding.

Under the framework, an online registration system will allow crime victims to directly register and submit representations to Correctional Supervision and Parole Boards.

Department officials highlighted that the agreement aims to streamline victim tracking, strengthen psycho-social support, and ensure that those impacted by crime are systematically included in restorative justice processes before an offender’s potential release.
