South Africa’s (SA) Acting Commissioner of the Border Management Authority (BMA), Major-General David Chilembe, says they are engaging with the Malawian government to expedite the repatriation of undocumented foreign nationals at the Beitbridge Border Post in Musina, Limpopo province.
He says the Malawian government is required to issue travel certificates for its citizens who are waiting to be processed at the repatriation camp at the port of entry.
Malawian nationals seeking repatriation have arrived from various centres, including Durban.
Chilembe says they have called on the Malawian embassy to assist.
“We have a little bit of challenge with the Malawian authorities because they are the ones who must issue the travel certificates in order for us to take them through. But we are trying to call them to come to the border in order for us to finish the whole process.”
