South Africa (SA) is struggling with reliable access to water, Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation David Mahlobo has told a national inquiry.

Speaking at the National Investigative Hearing on Food Systems in Johannesburg, Mahlobo highlighted that water supply reliability is among the key challenges facing the government.

He noted that while there have been improvements in access to water and sanitation across the country, ongoing issues continue to affect communities and sectors that depend on a steady supply. The hearing is examining how such challenges intersect with food security and broader national development goals.
