This comes as protests erupted in parts of the country after the Department of Home Affairs effectively reopened SA’s asylum system to new applicants.
The Inter-Ministerial Committee held an urgent meeting last night, and the chairperson of the committee, Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi, will brief the media shortly on the outcomes of the meeting. Baloyi has cautioned against speculation.
Let us quickly caution the public and everyone to be wary and aware of the apparent or co-ordinated disinformation campaign surrounding the Constitutional Court judgment that was actually issued on July 7, 2026.
