South Africa’s (SA) Health Minister Doctor Aaron Motsoaledi has warned the delegates attending the G20 Health Ministers meeting in Polokwane, Limpopo Province, against a pervasive threat of financialisation of health.
He says he is concerned that healthcare is turned into a marketable commodity that is available to a select few.
Addressing Health Ministers and senior officials from the world’s leading economies, Motsoaledi said they need to take lessons from global experiences to ensure public financing remains central.
This is part of the move by health departments to empower the poor through National Health Insurance.
