South Africa’s (SA) Department of International Relations and Co-operation (DIRCO) has initiated formal discussions with the United States (US) and Kenya following the case of seven Kenyan nationals found to have misused tourist visas.
The Department of Home Affairs confirmed that the individuals had violated SA immigration laws, prompting diplomatic engagement to resolve the issue.
Speaking on the matter, international relations expert and former Ambassador Dr Kingsley Makhubele said that while enforcing immigration rules is essential, careful diplomacy is also critical to maintaining strong bilateral ties.
Details of the discussions are being handled discreetly, but sources say authorities are moving quickly to address the situation and ensure it does not affect broader visa arrangements or international relations.
