BMA says it intercepted 4 763 travellers attempting to enter or leave the country illegally

The Border Management Authority (BMA) in South Africa (SA) says it intercepted 4 763 travellers attempting to enter or leave the country illegally during a ten-day Easter operation at ports of entry.

The authority says 3 170 of those intercepted were in the country without proper documentation.

BMA Commissioner Michael Masiapato says some of the individuals were also found with fraudulent visas.

He was speaking to the media in Pretoria on the outcomes of the Easter border operations.

“Out of these, 4 763 were people without documents. They failed to produce yellow fever certificates,” he said.
