South Africa’s (SA) Joint National Inquiry into the Reporting, Victim Support, Investigation and Pre-Trial Functioning of the Criminal Justice System Response to Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) in SA enters its third day this Wednesday.
The inquiry is held by the Commission for Gender Equality (CGE), the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), and the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL Rights Commission) . The scourge of GBVF in the southern African nation has been laid bare, as the recent discovery of bodies of murdered women in the Gauteng province.
On Wednesday, which is day three of the inquiry, the Department of Social Development provincial offices will be presenting their evidence regarding the measures put in place to support GBVF victims.
The week-long National Inquiry is in response to concerns for women’s safety in SA, as investigations into the killing of 13 women, in the country’s Gauteng province, which has shocked the nation and has led to women in the country fearing for their lives, continues.
