The group was responding to claims made by SA’s President Cyril Ramaphosa, where he condemned what he called a disinformation campaign that was impacting Pretoria’s relations with the United States (US). Ramaphosa said that the false information that some groups and individuals were spreading had influenced the US administration’s stance on SA. Critics have accused Afriforum of spreading disinformation in the US following its trip to the White House in February this year. Afriforum Chief Executive Officer, Kallie Kriel says the group never spread misinformation.

“The real misinformation that is being spread are by those that are trying to deny the real threats that the Expropriation Act has for the economy of the country. The President signed the Expropriation Act on the January 23, and President Trump responded ten days later. AfriForum played no role in that,” he said.
