South Africa’s (SA) Minister of International Relations and Co-operation, Ronald Lamola, and his Malawian counterpart, George Chaponda, have discussed issues affecting the two countries.
Their talks come as some Malawian nationals continue to return home following protests against undocumented migration.
While many have already been repatriated or deported, others are still awaiting transport or processing at the Beitbridge border post, with some temporarily staying outside Malawi’s missions in SA.
The two ministers met on the sidelines of the Southern African Development Community Ministerial Committee of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security in Malawi.
As Chairperson of the meeting, George Chaponda highlighted the political and security challenges facing the region.
During their bilateral discussions, Chaponda and Lamola also reflected on matters affecting both countries and reaffirmed their commitment to working together to strengthen co-operation, regional stability and unity.
