Third suspected drug mule arrested at OR Tambo International Airport

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has arrested a 52-year-old South African national at OR Tambo International Airport after seizing suspected heroin valued at over $123 000.

The suspect was intercepted during an intelligence-led operation this Sunday, shortly after arriving on a flight from Accra, Ghana. A search of his luggage uncovered bullet-like objects and blocks containing substances suspected to be heroin.

Confirming the arrest, Police Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk stated that the latest bust brings the total number of suspected drug mules arrested at the port of entry to three within the past three weeks.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court later this week to face drug trafficking charges while police investigations remain ongoing.
