While expressing satisfaction with the transparent process to appoint the next National Director of Public Prosecutions, Kubayi has called for lifestyle audits for prosecutors. She has warned that officials who live beyond their means pose a serious risk to the credibility of prosecutions and public trust in the NPA.
“Some individuals within would have been found to have done wrong from top to the bottom. Therefore you needed to be able to rebuild an institution of integrity, an institution that is focused on delivery and meeting targets. For example. One of the issues that I’ve raised when I arrived is that I don’t understand why. NPA has not voluntarily or upfront said all prosecutors must do lifestyle audit because if a prosecutor is refusing to do a lifestyle audit, that’s a red flag,” she said.
