Bavuma says they were not caught off guard by the conditions.
South Africa’s (SA) Proteas Captain Temba Bavuma says his team outmanoeuvred India on a difficult Kolkata surface, pulling off one of the most improbable Test victories in the nation’s history. Despite being on the brink of defeat after posting just 153 in their second innings, SA rallied to secure a remarkable 30-run win at Eden Gardens.
Bavuma says they were not caught off guard by the conditions, revealing they knew exactly what India had instructed the ground staff to prepare.
In the audio, Bavuma says: “I think the wicket that was prepared is what I understand was asked on their side. We came here knowing the wickets are going to be spinner-friendly, similar to what we got in this game, so it doesn’t come as a surprise. For a lot of our younger guys it was an experience for them to take in.”
