The Presiding Officers of Parliament have extended warm wishes to South Africans (SA) of the Christian faith as they observe Good Friday and the Easter weekend.
In a statement, Parliament of SA said that while the period is sacred to Christians, its message of sacrifice, hope, renewal and compassion resonates across communities in the country’s diverse constitutional democracy.
Good Friday marks one of the most significant moments in the Christian calendar, commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It is observed as a solemn day of reflection on what Christians believe to be the ultimate sacrifice for the redemption of humanity.
The day also calls on believers to reflect on themes of love, grace and mercy, values Parliament says remain relevant in fostering unity and understanding across society.
