The Parliament of South Africa (SA) is closing the year insisting that it sharpened its teeth on accountability in 2025
It also says it ramped up its oversight role over the executive and state institutions, and also used questions as a key tool to track service delivery, policy implementation and the use of public money. Parliament Spokesperson, Moloto Mothapo says members of parliament intensified their scrutiny over the past year.
“In terms of oversight and accountability, parliament reports a year of intensified scrutiny of the executive and state institutions. In the National Assembly alone, members pose 7 987 questions to the executive, and this include 7 432 written and 555 oral questions. In the National Council of Provinces, members asked 1 336 questions, which comprises of 1 168 written and 168 oral questions. These questions enabled members to interrogate policy implementation, assess service delivery, and scrutinize the use of public funds,” he said.
