Exactly one year after KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi delivered explosive testimony before Parliament, the Ad Hoc Committee investigating systemic corruption and political interference in South Africa’s (SA) criminal justice system is racing to wrap up its work.
The parliamentary inquiry was established following Mkhwanazi’s public allegations of organised crime syndicates and high-level political meddling within law enforcement structures.
Appearing as the lead witness on October 7 last year, Mkhwanazi’s testimony triggered extensive hearings that probed senior political figures and police leadership.
With the committee’s official mandate set to expire at the end of October, lawmakers are holding final deliberation sessions in Cape Town to consolidate evidence and complete their final findings and recommendations.
