South Africa’s (SA) Parliament Speaker, Thoko Didiza, says lawmakers must be more rigorous in drafting legislation, after the country’s highest court ruled that parts of Parliament’s impeachment process are unconstitutional.

Speaking during a debate on Parliament’s budget for the coming financial year, Didiza said the judgment highlighted the need for stronger oversight and law-making procedures.

The Constitutional Court has ordered Parliament to establish a committee to consider the possible removal of President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The ruling dominated debate in the National Assembly, with several parties questioning its political and constitutional implications.
