South Africa’s (SA) Department of Communications and Digital Technologies has asked Parliament not to release the full report on the SABC’s proposed new funding model.
The department, together with consultancy BMIT Knowledge Group Pty Ltd, has requested that updates on the model be considered behind closed doors, citing commercial sensitivity.
Communications Minister Solly Malatsi said the move is meant to protect the integrity of the ongoing process. “This is about safeguarding the process while it’s still incomplete, not about hiding anything,” he said. “We have always intended to work with the committee and guide them through each stage. Although BMIT will submit the final report, it’s important that the committee engages with the process as it develops.”
