Fazel’s name has come up on numerous times before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee, which is probing allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. This included Fazel’s recommendation of criminal and disciplinary action against the National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola, the Crime Intelligence boss, Dumisani Khumalo and Chief Financial Officer, Philani Lushaba. The recommendation is over alleged covert property deals. Presidential Spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya says the Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence is tasked with the investigation.
“The Judicial Services Commission has informed President Ramaphosa that it has received a complaint on the conduct of the Inspector-General and that the committee will conduct an investigation in line with section 7(4) and 7(5) of the Intelligence Services Act (Act 40 of 1994,” he said.
