President Cyril Ramaphosa has lifted the precautionary suspension of South Africa’s (SA) National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola, who will resume full duties on Monday.
Masemola was initially placed on precautionary suspension in April 2026 following an appearance in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court on charges related to the contravention of the Public Finance Management Act.
However, the National Director of Public Prosecutions instructed that the charges be withdrawn on September 15, 2026, with the court formally withdrawing them a week later on September 22, 2026.
Welcoming him back to his role, Ramaphosa expressed his appreciation to Lieutenant-General Puleng Dimpane, who served with distinction as the Acting National Commissioner during Masemola’s suspension.
