Ninth woman found dead in Dawn Park as Ekurhuleni murder investigation intensifies

South African Police Service (SAPS) units have secured a crime scene in Dawn Park, Boksburg, east of Johannesburg, following the discovery of another woman’s body in nearby bushes.

The discovery brings the total number of women’s bodies recovered across the Ekurhuleni metropolitan municipality to nine since July 2026. The incident follows an official briefing by Acting Minister of Police Feroz Cachalia and Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, who announced an expanded multidisciplinary task force, enhanced Operation Shanela deployments, and a R400,000 ($21,978) reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Police forensics and detective teams remain on-site in Dawn Park to process physical evidence, ascertain the victim’s identity, and determine whether the murder correlates with previous discoveries across Kempton Park, Tembisa, Olifantsfontein, and KwaThema.

SAPS management has urged members of the public possessing verified information regarding suspicious activity in the area to contact local authorities or submit anonymous reports via the national Crime Stop line.
