South African (SA) opposition party, the African Transformation Movement (ATM) has raised strong concerns over the reported coronation of a Nigerian “king” in East London in the Eastern Cape Province.
The party says the move undermines SA’s legal framework and the institution of traditional leadership.
The party argued that such titles cannot be established outside the country’s recognised cultural and legal systems.
ATM has called on authorities, including Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane and Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber, to urgently investigate the matter.
