Leader of South Africa’s (SA) Economic Freedom Fighters Party, Julius Malema, says a strong message must be sent to future witnesses, that Parliament’s Ad Hoc committee must be taken seriously

This, after the committee probing allegations of criminality, corruption and political interference in the criminal justice system sent the Police Minister’s chief of staff Cedrick Nkabinde, packing because of inaccuracies in his statement. Nkabinde admitted in the committee that he had thumb sucked dates in his statement.

Several members of Parliament have called his affidavit misleading and therefore unacceptable. Malema says sending him away should send a message to other witnesses.

“When you come here, you don’t thumb suck, that is a message we need to send. I was telling the Chief Whip that we must prepare others by sending this one home. So they know it’s not a playground.

We sit here until midnight, you still think we are playing. So no one must come here and thumb suck and think they can undermine this committee,” he said.
